For nineteen years, my office was a driver’s cab. I learned this trade on the highway — at loading docks at two in the morning, in the queue outside a customs gate, watching a temperature gauge on a consignment that could not afford to fail. That is not an education you can buy, and it is why I have never been able to treat medicine as ordinary freight.
